The purpose of this site is to conduct research into clinical depression. Much of the research involves investigating the public's attitudes towards depression and its treatment. The site is operated by researchers from the School of Psychology at the University of Western Australia. You can find more information about the researchers below.
Researcher Profiles
David Erceg-Hurn (PhD Candidate)
David completed his undergraduate Psychology training at Curtin University of Technology in Perth, Western Australia, between 2003 and 2006. He graduated with First-Class Honours.
David commenced his postgraduate studies at the University of Western Australia in 2007. He is undertaking a combined Masters of Clinical Psychology and PhD degree. His research involves investigating public perceptions of depression and its treatment.
David's work has appeared in several peer-reviewed journals, including the American Psychological Association's flagship journal American Psychologist. He was awarded the UWA Prize for Higher Degree by Research for the most outstanding peer-reviewed publication by a Humanities and Social Sciences Graduate student in 2008. David was also awarded the 2010 Australian Psychological Society College of Clinical Psychologists Student Prize for demonstrating excellence in the application of a scientist-practitioner model in research, coursework and placements in addition to providing support to his peers.
Neil McLean (Chief Investigator)
Neil undertook his training in Psychology at the University of Melbourne during the 1970s. He has been the Director of the Clinical Psychology program at the University of Western Australia for many years. In addition to his teaching, research and supervision duties, Neil also maintains a private practice delivering psychological services to the public.
Neil has broad research interests. He has conducted research on many topics, ranging from public perceptions of depression through to eating disorders and fear of flying.
